Clearing Hard Drive Space

August 5, 2010

I reached the 1 Terabyte of photos earlier this week and needed to clear some hard drive space before I could edit again. I could have had 2 Terabytes of space for photos, but I decided to Raid 0 my drives and mirror them, in case a hard drive crashes, at least I still have a copy of all my photos. It was a lot of fun going through some of my old archives. I even found some gems while looking through them, it was like finding a pot of gold! One of the photos I really liked was of my good friends, John and April. They had asked me to do a shoot for them last Fall, so they could make Christmas cards to send out to everybody.

Another photo I found that was really cool was a simple bench.  The paint was peeling off this bench, and I thought it made some really good texture.

The last old photo I will post tonight is that of a Mannequin.  I especially liked this one because the lamp illuminates a soft light on the face of the Mannequin.  And because it is a Mannequin and not a real being, makes it that much more interesting for me.  Can you guess where this photo was taken?  Anyone???????????????????

More photos to come!  I still have hundreds of folders to sort through, so this is the first of the old new photos I found!

Atlantic, Iowa

April 1, 2010

7 hours of driving and we were in the middle of nowhere. No cell phone reception, no internet, and no tv!  I felt a little panic strike me as the reality of being disconnected from the rest of the world settled in.  We drove out to Atlantic, Iowa to visit Grandma Schrum.  She hadn’t seen our new baby yet, and the last time we saw her was a year ago.  After the first night of going through no phone and no internet… I was ok!  It felt great not to know what was going on with the rest of the world.  Seemed like everything that happened in this little town, happened with special attention, and no distractions.  Everything was so… SIMPLE.

On the way to Iowa, we stopped by a Mcdonalds and found this statue of no significance to the restaurant.

I sat outside, and listened to the windchimes blow in the wind for a long while.

Veterans Valor

August 27, 2009

Tonight my cousin Richard and my sister Tena drove out to Naperville for a night time stroll in the park.  It was drizzling a little bit, and we came across this statue called Veterans Valor, made by Shirley Moss.  Located on South Washington Street near Central Park, this piece honored five men who fought during World War II.  All five men fought in different campaigns throughout the war, but they all attended Naperville High School in the late 1930s.  Sculpture Shirley Moss created the piece and said she wanted to show the five men reuniting after the war.

This photograph was incredibly tough to capture.  There were three bright yellow lights behind the sculpture that I did not want in the photo, so I had to place the camera in the right position to avoid the glare, and custom the white balance to get rid of the yellowish color.  I really wanted to capture the flag in the background so that meant having to shoot from the ground (this also enabled me to block out the three yellow lights behind the sculpture).  I shot this with a 20 second shutter, but because it was raining.. you can imagine my frustration of water getting onto the lens lol.
